Our hospitalization services include attentive care for pets who require intensive monitoring and treatment. From fluid therapy and pain management to ongoing diagnostics and supportive care, our team closely monitors each patient’s progress to ensure they remain comfortable and stable throughout their stay. We will refer to an overnight facility for unstable patients.

When Is Pet Hospitalization Necessary?

Hospitalization may be recommended in a variety of clinical situations, including:

  • Post-operative recovery following soft tissue surgery or other procedures
  • Serious infections or illness requiring IV antibiotics or antifungal treatment
  • Dehydration requiring intravenous fluid therapy
  • Severe vomiting, diarrhea, or gastrointestinal emergencies
  • Respiratory distress or breathing difficulties
  • Toxin ingestion or poisoning
  • Urinary obstruction or other urinary emergencies
  • Diabetic crises or other metabolic emergencies
  • Injuries requiring pain management and close monitoring
  • Pets requiring intensive diagnostic workup and same-day results

The length of hospitalization varies depending on the nature and severity of your pet’s condition. Some patients may only need to stay for a few hours of observation, while others may require care over several days. Your veterinarian will discuss the expected timeline with you and keep you informed of your pet’s progress throughout their stay.

What to Expect During Your Pet’s Hospitalization

When your pet is hospitalized at Egret Bay Veterinary Hospital, they receive individualized care from our experienced veterinary team. Each patient’s treatment plan is customized to their specific needs, and we monitor hospitalized pets closely throughout the day. We use in-house diagnostic tools — including our laboratory, digital radiology, and ultrasound — to assess your pet’s status and adjust treatment as needed in real time.

We believe in keeping pet owners fully informed. We will provide updates on your pet’s condition and communicate any significant changes or decisions that need to be made. Our team welcomes your questions — there is no such thing as asking too much when your pet’s health is on the line.

For pets recovering from surgery, we also offer Cold Laser Therapy as part of the post-operative care plan to help reduce inflammation, manage pain, and accelerate healing.
